Emilé (TM) by Media Design in·Progress is the first XML editor for Macintosh.
Emilé is used to author documents using extensible markup. Extensible Markup Language (XML) allows the use of custom elements in addition to or in place of HTML tags, and provides many other features for better content management.
Emilé provides menus and dialogs for efficient XML markup. The editor automatically adapts to the current document type (DTD) and is context-sensitive to facilitate correct markup.
Download Emilé 1.0 for Mac PowerPC (3.9 MB)- Emilé 1.0 was released June 9, 1999. It is optimized for PowerPC and includes a document outline palette, markup validator, contextual menus, context-sensitive elements lists and many other features. A license is required to open existing files, but the demo version allows saving of documents so that you can use the application for simple content creation. Add the Update 1 component for the latest fixes and improvements.

- Emilé Lite is a free edition of Emilé released April 6, 1999. It has less features and isn't optimized for PowerPC like the professional edition, so it is slower but works both for 68K and PPC Macs and fits on a diskette. Install Update 0 for the latest fixes and improvements.
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has announced that the next version of HTML is based on the XML standard. Emilé facilitates editing of Extensible HTML so that you can move ahead and use the next version of HTML today.
Internet Explorer 5.0 supports XML, and so does the latest version of NetScape Navigator. Use Emilé to author XML documents for the new generation of browsers. Emilé can export an XML or Extensible HTML document as a conventional HTML page for optimal accessability.
Emilé can be used for creating documents for Interaction websites, or to author content for the XPublish website publishing system. Both applications generate standard HTML pages from XML documents, so that you can benefit from the productivity and flexibility of extensible markup while keeping the site accessible for older browsers.
